QCP – Quality Click Pricing

ebayEPC, PPC, now QCP. Seems like every year some new type of program is generated so us bottom feeders can earn more dough.

What’s Quality Click Pricing?

Until now, eBay Partner Network has paid for sales and leads. With Quality Click Pricing, we will now instead pay affiliates for each click sent to an eBay site. The price paid per click will still depend on the short-term and long-term revenue of the traffic that the publisher drives to eBay, but will now also take into account the incremental value of that traffic to eBay, i.e., whether a sale happened as a direct result of the publisher’s actions. The greater the incremental revenue and the higher the expected lifetime value of the customers an affiliate sends, the higher the EPC and total earnings the affiliate will receive. Earnings Per Click (EPC) will be set daily for the previous day’s traffic.

What does this mean for you? Continue reading

True Value of a Domain Name

Why is it when something newsworthy transpires, a new product launch like the WII or the passing of an artist, Michael Jackson, do domainers rush out and register anything related to the individual or product? We (domainers) seem to think www.michaeljackson2009abcxyz[dot]com is worth 10 million dollars. Just visit any registrar and try to find any domain name with Michael Jackson in it…truly bizarre to think someone would actually be able to resell it (www.michaeljacksonblahblah[dot]com) for profit. A quick search on eBay for “Michael Jackson” netted over 22,000 results. Free enterprise, have to love it…but in reality it is the domain name registrars that make all the dough as speculators buy up everything then 95% let them drop a year later when registration is due.

michaeljacks0n-us-domain-name-michael-jackson MICHAELJACKS0N.US domain name michael jackson
US $49.00
Auction Ends: Saturday May-19-2012 18:17:51 PDT

The actual glove worn by Jackson recently sold for approximately $50 K so why would an undeveloped domain name be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars?

Well, the true value of a domain name is what your customer is willing to pay for it. The highest returns are made when you are able to find an end user or someone whom has the intention of developing the domain name. They have a specific need for it to sell their goods and these are usually corporations or businesses. This is your target market! Continue reading

Three Domain Registrars Lose Accreditation

ICANN has sent letters with non-renewal notices to three registars – South America Domains (doing business as namefrog.com), Simply Named Inc. (SimplyNamed.com), and Tahoe Domains Inc.

According to the letters, South American Domains lost accreditation for failing to provide “an interactive webpage and a port 43 Whois service providing free public query-based access to up-to-date (i.e., updated at least daily) data concerning all active Registered Names sponsored by Registrar for each TLD in which it is accredited.” Continue reading

Domain Roundtable Extended Auction Brings in $81,774

The Domain Roundtable extended auction ended Tuesday night with little fanfare.   An additional 54 domain names sold with a total take of $81,774.   From our observations of the auction proceedings, all but one of the domain names that sold went for the proxy bid prices that were entered before the finale of the auction began.  Since it appeared that no one was bidding up the proxies, many of the NR or lower reserve names were won by the first proxy bids.   In fact 42 of the 54 domains sold went for under $1000.  Bidders that placed their proxy bids in early on this auction definitely had an advantage.    The top sale of the night was Larger.com at $24,800 Continue reading

GetARoom.com sells for $30,000 USD (and others)

The Sedo sales for the week of June 22nd are highlighted by the sale of a slogan domain for $30,000 USD: GetARoom.com. While the name just redirects to RoomValues.com, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see it used more prominently in the future. Sedo also sold two .co.uk Domains (HorseRacing.co.uk and OnlineCasino.co.uk) at 100,000 British Pounds each, which is about 163,000 USD. This week’s sales also feature on of the first reported sales of a .tel domain, with vladislav.tel selling for $700 USD. Continue reading

Affiliate Programs – a user review

When it comes to affiliate programs and PPC, which ones you should consider, not all are created equal or not all are worth the effort of implementing their code into your sites. For those interested, here is my breakdown or review of the affiliate programs worthy of pursuing:

Adbrite – this is the poor cousin to Adsense and Yahoo and their payouts reflect the fact they do not entice or enjoy having the best advertisers willing to pay higher dollars to utilize their distribution network. Minimum payout $5.00 Continue reading

GoDaddy Promo Codes

GoDaddyNow don’t get me wrong … I am a GoDaddy Customer so not trying to bash them too hard here, however, being that I am a long term customer why is it I have to go looking for promo codes on third party websites to ensure I register  or renew my domains for the lowest possible price?

This is a complete waste of time and the time of many other domainers. GoDaddy should wake up and  automatically provide the lowest possible price in the shopping cart at time of renewal or at the very least provide a link from their user interface or dashboard to these promo codes and the discounted rates that relate to the domain extension requiring renewal.

Why should we have to surf the net to discover that special price, coupon or promo code discount on an unrelated website and then test it to see if it actually works? Talk about Goofy, did not realize GoDaddy was owned by Disneyland! Continue reading

Link Building for your Website

Why and how to acquire links for your website is controversial. Some bloggers recommend one-way, others suggest two-way or even three-way links.

I recommend you get relevant links and if the other party wants a reciprocal link go for it.  Select a couple of different anchor text phrases that you wish to rank well for and alternate your link text between them.

Some further useful details when trying to determine phrases or for picking the right keywords:

Choosing the correct keywords for link building will determine how successful your link building campaign will be.

Keywords are used in link exchange categories, in fields for automatic news search, as Category Text and as meta data for each category and more.

How to find keywords:

First of all it is not easy, so do not attempt to shortcut the process. If you have keywords that get decent traffic – this is a great start but only part of the overall task. How relevant to your web sites are these keywords for link building? This is where you need to focus your efforts.

#1. To determine how many web sites are linked with your anchor USE: Continue reading

Teachers & Doctors Said Markus Schnermann Had No Future: How He Demolished Their Diagnosis and Gained International Domain Fame

By Ron Jackson

German domainer Markus Schnermann is the picture of good health. By any measure – physical, mental, financial, you name it – he is at the top of his game. Schnermann founded a very successful business at KeywordDomains.com, is a partner in another (Domain Invest S.A.) and co-founded the biggest German language domain forum at ConsultDomain.de. After watching him soar to the top of the industry, domainers in his homeland often refer to Schnermann as a “superstar.” Heady stuff – especially for someone whose parents were once told they would have to care for him for the rest of his life.

Schnermann spent most of his youth battling spastic cerebral palsy, a condition caused by a shortage of oxygen at birth. It triggered an average of 30 convulsions a day and left him in need of constant therapy. “As a little kid it took much longer to learn to speak or walk,” Schnermann said, adding that his medical issues led people to reach the wrong conclusions about him.

“When I entered a standard school the teachers told my mother that they were sorry but her son would just be dumb,” Schermann recalled. Continue reading

Fabulous.com starts client beta for listing pre-release domains on Namejet

Dark Blue Sea / Fabulous.com who started listing their own expired domains from the company’s portfolio at Namejet back in August of 2008 has now expanded this service in a beta version to it’s other registrar clients. For the participants of the service, the domains will be offered on the Namejet auction site as of the date of expiry of the name. If there are no bids received, the domain will follow its normal deletion, redemption and release process. Should a domain name sell, the account owner will receive 65% of the sales price minus the renewal fee.

In order to prevent abuse, the beta trial adopts a strict “three strikes and you are out” policy for domain owners who renew their name after it has received bids on Namejet. Names that were on a executive lock or are marked to never be sold will not be listed with Namejet.

If you are interested in participating in the beta trial, contact your account manager at the company.
